Note: Two of the three magic tricks I excel at performing — the jumping fingers trick and the ring trick — were taught to me by my dear friend Jill sometime during our freshman year of high school (if not earlier). Over the years, I have added juggling three tennis balls (poorly) and making various grandkids disappear to the act.

Occasionally, you just have to step outside and do some magic tricks.

Admittedly, I often do them inside, with a full audience (at least two mildly interested onlookers); this time, though, it was just me and Mona, out back of the news office, as she prepared to head out on assignment. Because she had her camera with her, I allowed begged her to take a few snaps while I performed my famous ring trick.

The trick begins with two rings ...

The rings are joined together ...

The rings are joined together ...

A little behind-the-back magic ...

And voila! The rings are disconnected once again ... and, once again, the hands prove to be oh-so-much quicker than the eyes!

OK, what can I tell ya? The trick is probably much more effective if you can hear me singing my Magic Tricks Song while I’m performing, but as good as I am at sleight of hand, I’m still techno-challenged and have not yet figured out how to shoot, edit, upload and embed a video, so I guess you’ll just have to enjoy the “action shots” as you try to figure out how the trick is done.

And then, there’s the trick that started it all:

The jumping fingers trick ...

The jumping fingers trick ...

Peace out!
