Yellow Crocus 1

Of course, it is currently 19 degrees Fahrenheit with sleet or perhaps freezing rain flicking against the windows and awnings as it falls. We’re under a winter storm watch, according to The Weather Channel, but, much like our “tornado watch” the other night, I believe this falls under the category of “winter storm warning.”

I’m in love with these crocuses.

Or whatever a person can be with flowers. (Smitten? Impressed? Obsessed?)

Funny part is, if you’d suggested 5 or 10 years ago that I would one day actually have “favorite flowers,” I’d have rolled my eyes and told you to bite me, or something eloquent like that. I thought carnations were hearty/hardy and smelled pretty good, and roses were … well, roses. Other than that, however: Who the heck cared about flowers?

And now, I seek out hibiscus plants. And poppies. And sunflowers. And daisies. And even dandelions. And various others.

It’s all good.

Pending birthday celebrations necessitated a trip to Wal-Jack this evening. Because I am trying to cut down on any extra-curricular spending, I went with a pretty specific list; it wasn’t written down or anything, but it was set in my head:

  • Kitty litter
  • Yellow cake mix
  • Chocolate frosting
  • Eggs

Before I made it to the Pets section, though, I thought I’d take a gander at the Home & Garden department. Just to see if they had any cool-looking plants. And I found a pot that had daffodils, hyacinths and some tiny purple irises in it.

Oh, and some of these — so I just HAD to have it:

And then Carmelo got in on the act:

Mitty, of course, was stuck inside, but trust me: She doesn’t like being outdoors, and she despises other cats. (It was all good.)

For the record, I ended up sticking to my list, except for the plant. Oh, and I did pick up a “confetti” cake and some white icing, for those guests who don’t care for yellow cake with chocolate frosting.

Because I care enough to send the very best … and also because a few of my co-workers received some nice bouquets, and then, later, I stumbled across more crocuses.

(The white crocus reminds me of The Flying Nun.)
